Step 3 - Tour the Homes
Step 3 – Tour the Homes
There are many ways to tour a home today – from open houses, to private showings, 360 virtual tours and immersive experiences (think virtual reality headset). With technology in real estate where it is these days, most of the ways to tour a home can be accessed through an app or computer, allowing you to see tour times, schedule a showing or step through a virtual tour. For most homebuyers, gone are the days where you get into an agent’s car and they drive you around for a few hours showing you what they found that you might be interested in seeing. Buyers today are in the driver’s seat, capable of touring homes they desire to see at a time that makes sense to their schedule. We think it is much more efficient this way.
However you choose to tour a home, be open minded and make plans to see more than just a few. See many. Take notes. Prioritize what you see and feel so that you can compare it to your needs and wants. Your goal should be to find a place that checks your boxes. You may never check all your boxes, but you may find a balance that will make you feel energized to write an offer on what could become your home.
Just as important to being able to visualize yourself in a home is touring the neighborhood. Often an overlooked experience by many home buyers, this is critical to identifying how your lifestyle and routines might fit into the community surrounding the home. Set aside time to go by yourself or with the family. Do what you might normally do on a weekday or weekend. Take a run, walk the dog or bike with the kids. Go at a time that you would normally do that activity. Purchase groceries from the closest grocery store. Engage in conversation with a neighbor or stranger. Find out what it would be like to be part of the neighborhood you are looking to call home.
This is your time to explore, to get yourself excited to find something you want to pursue. Schedule a call with a Homsby agent who can help you tour the homes you are excited to see.
